Sights on the way toSiem Reap

Image
Here are just some pictures of our trip to Siem Reap. It has been quite hot lately; we are at the start of the hot season. Thankfully, it started raining about 2:30am Friday morning before we left and continued until about 9am. We left the school at 7am, so it cooled off and we had a nice cloud cover most of the way. The 2nd picture is of the students that were in our car and the last picture is the place we stopped on the way to eat lunch. We are very excited to say that tonight, a girl named Kiy, was baptized. She is "dating" one of our students and they are quite serious. Know that we think of you often and love you all. Ronda

Headed to Siem Reap tomorrow

We are taking our students to meet with the students from the Bear Valley School of Preaching in Siem Reap and having a workshop this weekend. So, the plan is to take pictures and tell you about it when we get back. I learned a new saying here...when they are really thrilled about something good, the term they use is the words for "to bloom, blossom, or swell" and "liver" (yes, like your bodily organ). So we hope your liver is bloomin' about something!!! This is just a picture that my mom took of my sister, Julie, me, Rich and Dad standing in the kitchen. Take care! Much love, Ronda

Updating all of you...

The first pictures is of 2 new Christians that we have. Dara, the boy, is one of the guards at the PIP house; and the girl, Srayleak is his girlfriend. He has known for some time what he needed to do but his family is all Buddhist and was making his decision complicated. Please pray for them. The next picture is of Rich, Dad and Mom (Loren and Penny Hollingsworth) and me in front of our house. Dad and Mom were here for a little over a month while Dad taught Isaiah in the school. We always enjoy their visit when they come and appreciate so much the teaching that Dad does. He does prefer to teach in Thailand where he can speak the language and doesn't need a translator. The 3rd picture is Rich, leading singing at the PIP house congregation; and then the last picture is of Dad teaching at the school. We love you all. Ronda

How's That Again?

Communicating in another language is challenging. About a year ago, when I got up to preach, I meant to use the word "Muey-dong-theat" (they shorten this to ma-dong theat) which means "one more time". Instead I used "Muey-theat" which means "one other" or another. So, what I meant to say as we would study about Jesus "one more time" instead became we would study about "another" Jesus. My friend and translator Tawn just looked at me and said, "Are you sure? Who is this other Jesus?" Talk about a red face when I realized what I had said. Ma-dong theat or Muey-theat, so close but so far away. Now, it's time for another (muey-theat) mess up. If you look at the words posted here, you can see they are very similar. The bottom word is the short and easy word for "kingdom". In teaching class, I wanted to use an example about a kingdom where I was the king and made the laws. I intended to write the "kingdom

5 New Christians in Phnom Penh

Image
A week ago, we got to watch as 5 people gave their lives to Christ. The first picture is of those 5, as well as James (in the middle in white shirt, who is the preacher). Their names are (lt to rt): Sokleap, Reksmay (he is the nephew to Tawn, Rich's interpreter), Sokna, Noc (in the red shirt; she is our school's cook) and Boray (he is our newest student). We were very excited!!! Please pray for them as they strive to grow. The last picture is of Rich, Dad (Loren Hollingsworth), me and Mom (Penny). Dad has been teaching Isaiah in the afternoons. More on them in the next blog. Much love, Ronda PS. There were also 2 more baptisms in one of the villages, so please pray for them as well. Our students are doing a great job teaching others.
