Srae Ambel Church Camp - Day 3

Image
This is a picture of all of us.  What an excellent time we had to spend together.  To study, talk, share, work and laugh together. Sokun, who I already talked about in the last blog, was kind of the MC for the morning devotional time.  It is always great to get to see him.  I just thought these boys looked sweet.  They were on the 2nd row, singing along with everyone.  They are from the congregation in Siem Reap.  This is Rong.  He led a prayer this morning.   I wanted to tell you that the first time he did a chapel talk at CBI, I thought he was going to throw up.  He kept gulping for air and I really thought that he was going to be sick. Now, here he is, standing in front of over 100 people.  So much growth on his part.  The best part of the day was welcoming in a new brother.  Khemrin is one of our students at CBI.  We are so excited to get to be a part of this new birth and to watch him grow in the Lord.  And here are our students that went to camp. Srae Ambel Church Camp - Day 2

Image
The 2nd day of camp was our first full day. This is Sokun, one of our graduates, and his son.  Sokun, as well as several of our other graduates, like in the Battambang area.  They are doing a great job leading the church in their village.  And, at 6:30 in the morning, Sharon Welch and I were cleaning the bathrooms.  It was our group's turn. I meant to get a picture of the guys and girls shower area, but didn't.  For the girls shower area, there was a tarp wrapped around 4 wooden poles, about 4 foot square.  Inside was 2 plastic tubs, like the one in this picture, that were filled with water.  And of course you had your dipper, so that you could splash water on yourself, wash up, and then rinse off.  On this day, I taught the married women.  My topic was Husband/Wife Relationships. The next day, I taught the unmarried ladies.  My topic for them was Importance of Choosing a Good Husband, and then Appreciation/Affection/ and Spending Time Together in Marriage.  Thi

Makara's baptism

Image
I am interrupting the camp posts because one of our students was baptized. Makara started at CBI in July 2014. So he had been studying the Bible everyday for over 3 months.  So we were excited when he told us he wanted to be baptized.  Vanna, our last graduate, is who baptized him.  The old Makara dies and is buried. Meet the new Makara!  We are thrilled to have him as a new brother. So, this morning, he gave his first chapel talk. Please keep him in your prayers.

Srae Ambel Church Camp - Day 1

Image
We had our first nation-wide all ages church camp.  Srae Ambel is the area where the camp was located. We left Phnom Penh at around 8:15am and arrived at the camp at about 12:30. My sister, Julie Broyles and her staff at the BEST Center organized and hosted the camp. Of course, the trip wasn't without incident.  For those of you from Broken Arrow and have been on some of our youth trips, or are familiar with them, it is not unusual to see Rich being under a vehicle.  And, so it continues.  On this particular trip, part of the muffler fell off and it was dragging the ground, so we had to wire it up.  But we did get to camp.  And, since this was the first time any of the Khmers (Cambodians) had stayed in tents, it was quite exciting. Of course, in the early evening, when it downpoured and some of the tents flooded, it wasn't quite so much fun.  But they were all good sports, dried out things the best they could, and were excited to be spending time with their

14th CBI Graduation

Image
On Friday night, October 31st, we had our 14th graduation. Here are some pictures of the occasion. With the exception of Veasna, who gave the charge to Vanna, all the others that participated in the ceremony are current students. Sophea acted as the MC. Rong led several songs.  Kimsroeun also led some songs  Kemrun read the first scripture reading. And gave a short explanation.  Ponleu read another scripture and also made an application.  Veasna, who is one of our graduate and is currently helping at the school as a teacher and translator gave the charge to Vanna. He emphasized the importance of God being #1 in your life and not allowing anything or anyone to come between you and God, even though at time it would be hard. He did a good job.  We are blessed to have him working at the school as he is a good Bible student and well as a good translator when we have visiting teachers from the US.  Then, Rich did the presenting of the diplomas.  This is Rich w
