On the highway between Phnom Penh and camp

I thought you might enjoying seeing some of the sights on the highway.  This is one of our major highways.

These are just minivans.  We did see one with a moto in the back, like this one, but a guy was sitting on it while riding in the car.  I didn't get any pictures of the insides of these vans, since I didn't want it to be too obvious that I was taking pictures, but in all of these, there were at least 5-6 people per seat, plus extras in the back, hanging out the doors, and on top.
This motorcycle was hauling a cart with 4 of these big water vats.  And these motorcycles are small, like 60 cc.
It is amazing to me how many hours they can ride like this.  In this van, there was 6 people behind the back seat, plus bags.
In the back of the pickup is a couple boys that I had fun waving at.
And yes, this van is going down the highway.  They are so packed in these things!  I think there was over 40 people in this van that has 4 benches.
This lady on the back of this motorcycle has quite the load.  She is sitting on the cross poles that are holding the baskets on, and then she has tons of stuff that she is holding onto.
And in case trying to get around these loaded vans and motorcycles isn't enough, you always have to be on the lookout for the cows crossing the street.
The rule of thumb is:  always head to the back of the cow because they don't go in reverse.   (They might turn around, but don't reverse)
This is leaving from the camp.  These are the 2 vehicles from Siem Reap.  They had to drive to Phnom Penh on Saturday (3 1/2 hrs), then after services on Sunday morning, they drove on home to Siem Reap, which, because the highway is all torn up is about a 8 hour drive with a tremendous amount of dirt and holes that have to be maneuvered around.

And if that isn't enough, a bunch of them rode in the back of a truck. The temperatures here now get to just over 90 F.
Here is a close up of the side of their truck when we were passing them.  That's a lot worse than the old green school bus (for you BA people)!  They were so excited to be able to come, and even though the trip is long and dirty, they are already looking forward to next year.

Then, when we were just getting back into Phnom Penh, this ice truck was in front of us.  I was amazed that the flip flops didn't fall off as he was driving down the street.

Hope you enjoyed seeing how much fun it is here!  You should come visit!
Much love,
Ronda
