We are coming!

First, let me tell you about the voting last week.  Voting is always done on a Sunday.  So the prime minister gives the Saturday before and the Monday after for travel dates.

This election was only for the commune leaders.  And actually, instead of voting for people, they vote for the party and then the party selects the people.  The national election is in another year.

It reminds me a lot of Joseph and Mary, when they went to register in Bethlehem when Jesus was born.  Here, everyone goes back to their villages to vote.  You can get your registration moved to where you are currently living, but that takes some work (and probably money), so the majority of the people that I know just stay registered in their birthplace.  For example, one of our Christian couples has been living in Phnom Penh probably since we have been here (15 years).  They met here in Phnom Penh but they are from 2 different villages.  So they each had to make their way back to their own villages.

Many of our students are from Battambang.  Thankfully, the roads are getting better, but it is still a 5-6 hour trip, one way.  After some requesting (begging), Rich allowed them Tuesday also.  As you can imagine, with everyone going home, the traffic to and from the countryside is terrible.  So, Rich let them have an extra day and travel back on Tuesday, after the majority of the people have already returned.  The condition was that if they needed to, they might have to study on a Saturday.

As for our US schedule, we finally got it worked out.  So, the plan is...

July 5th - 12:40 AM, fly out of Phnom Penh

July 6 -  Richmond, VA (Reuben and Emily's)

July 11 - fly to OKC (Rebekah and Evan's.  Just to rent a car and spend one night)

July 12 - drive to Midland to see Rich's mom

July 16 - drive to Houston, TX (Jason's)

July 22 - drive to Broken Arrow, OK

July 26 - drive to Batesville, AR

July 28 or 29 - drive to Kansas City, KS (Randall and Kassie's)

August 5 - drive to OKC (Rebekah and Evan's)

August 12 - fly back to Richmond, VA

August 15 - fly out of Richmond

August 16 - arrive back in Phnom Penh.

We hope to see many of you!!

Much love,

Ronda
