CBI Graduation - May 16, 2025

On Wednesday and Thursday, the 14th and 15th, we had Graduates Meetings.  We spent the morning studying with graduates and current students on the Cost of Following Christ.  

Wednesday afternoon, they played a Bible game.  And Wednesday night, they meet with the class at the Phnom Penh Church of Christ.

Thursday night, we ate pizza and played Uno.  They enjoy all getting together and getting to visit and play and just have fun fellowship.

Friday night, we had 2 of our students graduate from CBI.  Both had older siblings who already graduated.

Phalim is from Battambang.  Both he and his older sister came because of Sokun and Soklee, our graduates that work in their village.  

Sroy is from Kompong Cham province.  Her older sister, Srang is one of our graduates.  

Sroy's family couldn't attend as Srang is due with her first baby very soon.

Rich always has a CBI graduate give the talk.  He asks the graduates who has touched their lives.

Sokun, from the Romchek village in Battambang province is who was selected to speak.  


 This is the group in attendance.  We are grateful for the support of the Capital Phnom Penh Church of Christ as well as the Phnom Penh church.  







These were the CBI students and graduates that attended the graduation.
It is always bittersweet when someone graduates.  We are used to seeing their faces every day except Saturdays.  So we miss them but pray that they will follow God always.

Please keep them in your prayers as well.

This is Phalim's family.  His sister, Sophanmai on the left is one of our graduates.  

Phalim's father was a denominational preacher but encouraged Sophanmai to come to school.  They now all worship at the Romchek Church of Christ and Ratanak, the father, is one of the leaders in the church.


This weekend, Rich and I will be going to Borey and his families' house in Svay Reang province.  

Then, on May 30th, at about midnight, we will be heading to the US.  

Our current plans are to:

Arrive at DFW on Saturday morning, the 31st, and drive to Batesville, AR.  We will worship with all of you at North Heights (hopefully we won't be too jetlagged).

We will drive on to Kentucky to meet with our son, Reuben and his family.  We will go to the Ark Encounter.

After worshipping with Reuben and family, we will drive to Kansas City, KS to spend a week with Randall and his family.

Monday, the 16th, we will drive to Broken Arrow and be there until the 19th. (Sorry, we won't be there on Sunday.)

On the 19th, we will drive to Yukon and see Rebekah and her family for a week.

On June 26th, we will drive to Midland, TX to visit with Rich's family.

On July 1st, we will drive to Cypress, TX to see Jason and family.  We will be making a quick stop in San Angelo, Tx to visit sweet friends there.

July 9th, we will drive back to DFW and fly back to Cambodia on the 10th.

We hope to see many of you along the way.  Please keep us in your prayers for safe travels.

Our house

 I thought since my last post was about our street, I would show you our house.  (I don't think I have posted that before).  We live in a ផ្ទះល្វេង translated is a 'long house'.  Land here is extremely expensive but labor is cheap; so you buy a small plot and build up.  Our house is skinny and tall.  Each floor has 2 rooms and bathrooms. We'll start at the street.   As you can see, our gate sits right on the street.  Our street is the main street through the neighborhood. This is the repairman, wearing a motorcycle helmet with face shield, while he welds the new part on the bottom of our gate. (Isn't that regulation eyewear for welding??) You can see our new incline, so that we can get the truck and motorcycle in and out.  Before, it was too steep.   This is the area between the gate and the "front doors".  The doors are accordion style so that we can open them up all up and get the truck out. Flooding in Battambang

Sokun and Soklee are 2 of our students who are working in a village in Battambang.    We are incredibly proud of the work they have done for the past few years.  They are very active in their community.  They did a lot of teaching and helping during Covid.   The church there is growing.  They have a wonderful reputation among the people there.  When we were there last, several people let me know how much they are doing for their village as well as being leaders in the church.  They have classes for all ages of kids.  Every Friday night, a group of teenagers meet at Sokun's and sing for an hour or so as well. Sokun is now the village chief.  All the villages, even the areas in Phnom Penh, have a village chief that takes care of the needs of the village, etc. I sent to Sokun a few days ago after I saw his post about the flooding, and asked if, on top of prayers, they had particular needs.  He told me food and fresh water. Busy Week!

 We started off a busy 10 days with the wedding of Channo and Sraydte. They are both Christians and members of the Phnom Penh Church of Christ.  Sraydte, the bride, became a Christian because she is from the village of Borey, one of our graduates. Borey taught her as she was growing up, and was converted. Then she came to Phnom Penh to go to the university and met Channo.  Channo studied and became a Christian as well. They are both now working here in Phnom Penh. The venue you see in the picture is a tent that is set up just before the wedding and by the time we were leaving town, they were already taking it all down. I took this picture because the MC of the wedding told her to kiss the groom.  (They don't kiss each other at the same time.  In fact, they don't really kiss at all.  They just put their face beside the other.)  She was really embarrassed and didn't want to do it.   In this picture, she ended up kissing his hand.  A minute...
