Cambodia through Kassie Dolan and Amy Thrailkill Britton's eyes

As I told you, I would blog some of the pictures that Kassie and Amy took while they and their families were here.  It is all 'normal' for us since we have been here so long, and I have trouble trying to figure out what to take pictures of.  Here are the things that they thought were interesting.

A lot of these were in Siem Reap where we went to Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm Temple.

Showing how steep the original stairs were.

Looking up those stairs

The baths at Angkor Wat.  There are 2 sets of these.  Both sets have 4 baths, built in a square.  The baths at the top are for the leaders, king, etc.  The ones at the lower level were for the common people.

One of the many carvings on the walls in Angkor Wat

Ta Prohm Temple.

The birds drop seeds onto the buildings and the roots begin to grow, making it look like the trees are growing out the top of the buildings.  They have amazing roots.

They wanted to leave this temple more the way it was originally found.  However, as the tree roots are holding the building together, they are also shoving the stones apart as the tree grows.  It is a complicated system of trying to keep everything where is it now.

Bayon Temple is the temple with at least 4 faces on each tower.  This temple is having some major work done on it at this time, so we weren't able to see as much as usual.

It is always interesting and a bit sad to me to see they new support poles and beams that are new from the last time I was there.

I guess after all the years of youth ministry, when we are walking down all these little hallways that are like mazes inside the temples, I think what a great place to play lazer tag!  (Or paint ball if you could somehow protect the temple from the paint)

Also in this temple, there was a face that was carved and showed between the tree roots in  one of the small walkways.  I couldn't find it this time so I asked where it was.  That tree had to be taken out and that part of the temple shut off.

This is the bridge into the Bayon section of the temples.
Another entranceway into the temple area, complete with a wall that still goes around this area.
The walk into Ta Prohm temple.

Ta Prophm temple

This is back in Phnom Penh at the Russian Market near our house.
More market
And, more tasty insects.
These last 2 pictures are back in Siem Reap at Ta Prohm temple; just showing the roots of the trees and how they grow on the stone building and walls.

Russian Market.

Russian Market has 4 sections.  The southwest side is mostly souvenirs and jewelry.  The southeast side is rows of clothes and fabric, like in this picture.

The northwest side is motorcycle parts and hardware and the northeast side is the food market.

This is a coconut seller.  In case you don't know, coconuts come like this - big green fruit.  The outer layer of the green has to be cut off in order to see the small brown coconut that you are used to seeing in the US.

There are coconut milk sellers all over the city.  It is normal to see huge piles of coconuts waiting to be sold.

The garden center will come to you!
Ryah Dolan, Jackson Britton, Kenley and Randall Dolan in a tuk tuk.
This is my pineapple seller.  She sits here all day and cuts up pineapples.  As the cost is the same if they are already cut up or if I take it home and cut them, it is much easier to buy them cut up.

Our pineapples usually cost about 60 cent each.  We can get them all year long, although the size varies depending on the season.

Meat in our neighborhood market.

I am a spoiled American and buy my meat in the store packaged, mostly because I don't know how long this meat has been out.  So don't worry!  If you come to see us, I won't feed you this meat.

One of the fruit sellers that I go to a lot.
This is the kids at the Phnom Penh Church with Ryah and Kenley eating lunch after services.
And a banana cart.

I hope you enjoyed their pictures.

Right now, Rich is teaching most of the students a course on how to prepare lessons.  Khemrin is teaching the 4 older students on Evangelism.

On Sunday, Rebekah and Evan and the kids will be here!!!

We still have not decided when we will make our US trip this year.  Stay tuned!

Much love,

Ronda Dolan
