New student!

We want you to meet Rina Thy (pronounced 'tee').  She is 18 years old and just started at CBI yesterday.

She is the daughter of Thy, a long time friend in the village.  He preaches for the congregation there. She is the youngest of 3 children.  She comes from a wonderful family and we are thrilled she is here.

Please keep her in your prayers.

(In case you were wondering, most of the time, the children's last name is their father's given name.)  

This is a gecko (we call them 'chinchuks') outside of our house.  I saw it when I was doing the laundry.  I have never seen one with this coloring, and I have seen tons of them.

According to Dara and Piset, our friends and Christians at the Capitol congregation, chinchuks shed their skin.  I've never seen one in the process of shedding before.  













I forgot to post that the Capitol congregation had a day at the beach on Saturday, August 1st.  

Rich gave the devotional talk.  It rained off and on during the day but overall, it was a nice day.  We always have a good time together.

These are our guys at the rest stop off the highway.  

Both the guys and girls travel like this, dressed normal.  Then, once we get to the beach, they head to the restrooms to change clothes.  The girls will change clothes several times - you know, you have to have all these different clothes for ALL the selfies that you take.    

They always take serious pictures, so it is hard to get them to smile for pictures.  But they are a great group of guys.  Aleab, the one on the left end, only has one more class after this one in order to graduate from CBI.

Rich is teaching Old Testament History I to our newer students and Khemrin is teaching the book of Revelation to our older students.  Friday will be their finals for these classes.  

Next week, Rich will teach the older students on Church Growth, while Khemrin will teach Old Testament II to the newer students.

We hope you all had a wonderful summer.  We are planning to be in the US for Thanksgiving with all our children and grandchildren and then will be travelling around some (not sure on that schedule yet).

On the beach photo, is that a creek or stream flowing into the ocean? Or is it runoff from the rain?

6 New Students

 I wanted to let you know that we received 6 new students from Battambang province at the school yesterday.  (There is another one but he was sick so didn't come now) They have all taken their 12th grade exit exam but haven't received the results.  Rich thought it would be good for them to come for this short 2 week class to get a feel for the school.  At CBI, they have to read a lot more and the studying is more intense than what they do in high school.  If their motivation is only to come to Phnom Penh because the big city is 'cool', they likely won't stick it out.   Starting September 15th, the school will be on break for 2 weeks for the Pchum Benh Holiday.  So they will be with us for 2 weeks and then go home for 2 weeks.  We hope they will all choose to come back and study with us. All of these new students come from Sokun and Soklee's village or area.  Some of them are already Christians which is exciting!  It is great to see ...

Just Random Stuff

 We have a 2 week break from school for the Pchum Bunh holiday.  We will start back to school this Monday, September 29th. The best news is that last Sunday, Rebekah was baptized.  She is Channy and Kai's daughter.  Channy is one of the preachers here in Phnom Penh.  Rebekah is 14 years old.  (Channy is in the white shirt.) Please keep her in your prayers as she begins her life with her Lord. (Sadly, I didn't get a good picture after her baptism. )  This picture was taken on the last day of school before the break.   Standing:  Lymeng in front of Rich.  Our new students have been at the school for a few weeks now and are settling in.  Unfortunately, Gimhuot and our newest students went home.  Hong also is at home.  He was sick before he came and continued to be sick at CBI, so he has gone home for now but intended to return. Next week, on Tuesday, we will be going to our annual camp.  It will last until Friday.  It is a great time to be able to see Christians from all over Cambodia. We had a couple stay with us last week.  He is from South Africa and she is from the Philippines.  They have been married 2 years and are looking for a ministry place.  They are visiting Thailand, here, and Vietnam.  Their names are Simeon and Roseann.  Please pray that they will find the work that God has designed for them to do.
