Church camp; Alex and Kira Mills

As is my custom it seems, I once again am behind on blogging.

In my last blog, I talked about Simeon and Roseann being our guests for a week.

After they left, we headed for the 10th annual country-wide Church Camp.  This is a picture of our entire group.

Our theme this year was "What every Christian should know about sex".

As the bulk of the Christians in Cambodia are between 18-30, and as most are new Christians, this topic was selected as it is important for them to understand what the Bible teaches.  Steve Holladay came to be the keynote speaker.  His son, Griffin, as well as Robert Ables and Kyle Gilmore, from Whites Ferry Road in West Monroe, LA, also came.  We enjoyed being able to meet them and visit with them for a few days.

Honestly, I was a little concerned about the topic, especially with a speaker from the US, since the culture and the background of the people here is quite a bit different.  But Steve did a great job with his lessons.  It was very straightforward and Biblical without being awkward.

This is the CBI group (with a couple extras and missing Navy).

Since half of our group are new students, this was quite an experience for them.
Like normal, everyone in camp is divided into 4 groups for handling cooking prep, washing dishes and clean up.  It was great for our new students to be able to be around so many Christians from all over Cambodia.

Camp was the first week of November.  We drove back to Phnom Penh on Friday morning, Nov. 7th.

Monday, November 10th, Alex and Kira Mills arrived.  For those of you NOT from Batesville, AR, Alex is one of the ministers at the North Heights congregation in Batesville, Arkansas.  Right now, he is serving as they Youth and Family Minister.  Alex came 8 years ago with John Ward.  However, this was Kira's first trip.

Alex taught I and II Peter to our students at CBI for the two weeks.  On the weekend, Alex and Kira led a marriage seminar.  Again, most of our congregation is college aged.  Therefore, the morning sessions were for everyone.  Then the afternoon sessions were only for the married couples.
We appreciate them using their only Saturday here to do additional teaching.

These are pictures of Saturday morning.

During the weekdays, while Alex taught, Kira and I went walking around our part of the city, as well as up to the post office in the north part of town.  One day, Alex mentioned he hadn't seen any Buddhist monks out.  Since Alex was teaching in the mornings, he didn't see them because that is when they are out, walking and collecting food for the day.  Kira and I saw them all the time.  Here's a couple pictures.

Both of these pictures are taken on our street.

We are grateful to Alex and Kira for coming to visit and teach.  We are also grateful for the many of you who helped support them on their trip here.

I told Kira that next time, we will have to set aside some time for her to see the countryside.

Now we are back to our normal routine.
Khemrin has most of the students in his class.  He is teaching the book of Luke.
Rich is teaching Revelation to our older students.

Please keep our students, the church and us in your prayers.

Much love,
Ronda
