Odds and Ends

Image
These are two of our newest students.  The one on the left is Cheanreas.  He is 21 and from Takeo province.  He is quieter but studies hard. On the right is our newest student, Sophea.  He is 27 and from Battambang.  He gave his first chapel talk today over Ephesians 6:1-9 and did a great job.  He is a very good student and asks a lot of questions.  As Rich told you in the previous blog, my parents, Loren and Penny Hollingsworth, are here for the month of February.  They have been in Thailand teaching for the last 3 months and will return to Thailand for Dad to teach another month in Chiang Mai before returning to Alaska. Veasna is translating for Dad at the school.  This is Try translating for him at the University congregation. (And I will not make any derogatory remarks about my mom, unlike Rich). The students think that Dad talks very fast and is hard to keep up with.  We keep telling them to be grateful that they are...

JUST STUFF

Image
First is a picture of several of our students holding the books translated into Khmer. Why show the picture? Because the three guys on the right will graduate February 28th.  PISETH, ROTHA and VANNA have been at CBI a little over two years. Piseth (center)  hopes to go back to his home village to start a church and help with another congregation. Rotha is not sure yet what he will do. Vanna (far right), plans to marry and live in Phnom Penh. Secondly, the books pictured are books many of you helped to have translated into Khmer. On the left are the book and study guide of the LIFE OF CHRIST.  In the middle is the study guide for HISTORICAL CHRISTIAN EVIDENCES.  On the right are the book and study guide for PAID IN FULL (ROMANS).  We are currently having the Sunset book and study guide on ACTS translated into Khmer.  All the funds for that are not in place yet, but God continues to bless us. Next, you should know that my in-laws are here. ...

Ray and Karen Hull

Image
We were thrilled to have Ray and Karen Hull here from Waynoka, OK They were here for the month of January. Ray taught Matthew to our students. It was their first time here.  They were able to make a quick trip to Siem Reap one weekend. They also brought Brittani, their niece who taught English at the BEST Center.  Their daughter, Ginger, was also able to come for about 2 weeks. It was great getting to know them and spend time with them.  It is always wonderful to get to know more of our Christian family. I thought I would also add this picture of Kimsrun.  This is his 2nd time to teach chapel.  He did a great job.  It is always amazing how much they improve over the 2 years that they are in the school.  Please pray for all of our students as they study and learn.  Much love, Ronda

Soporn's wedding

Image
Soporn helps me in the house.  And, she decided that she would rather get married than to continue to help me.  Can you imagine?? Anyway, EARLY Monday morning (I am talking 6am), Rich and I hop on the motorcycle (I am riding sidesaddled since I am in a long Khmer style skirt) and take off for Soporn's wedding. We arrived after much traffic, dirt, potholes, and one wrong turn.  This is what the front of the area looked like.  Her house is toward the other end.  When they have a wedding, they block off their neighbor's houses with a tent for the event - usually for an entire day. Once all the family members and close friends arrive, we all line up in a processional that starts down the street, and we walk back, in pairs, to the wedding place. This is the groom and his parents in the front .  If you spot Rich, you can see that the photographer put us just behind the groomsmen, in front of the grandmothers.  We tried to move to the back, but they ...

Another brother and sister!

Image
On Sunday, we were thrilled to be able to add 2 more to our family in Phnom Penh. Cheanrea and Seakcheng are 2 of our new students at the preaching school. This is Cheanrea and Rich before his baptism.  And Seakcheng is a new person! Please keep them as well as our other student in your prayers.  Also, please pray for our graduates and their families as they teach God's Word to those around them. Much love, Ronda

December in Cambodia

Image
We were blessed during the month of December to have Rich's mom, Glenda and his grandmother, Billie Howell, here with us.  Then, on Dec 20th, our son, Reuben and his wife Emily came. So here are some of the sights that they saw while they were here. This is the traffic by the temple near our house.  There was a wedding on the other side so it was blocked, making everyone go around this way.  This picture was taken on the other side of the river from Phnom Penh.  These are fishing boats as well as the houses for the fisherman.  Just behind me is a huge 5 star hotel that they are building.  Such a contrast of lifestyles. This was December 27th at the airport when Rich's mom and Grandmother were leaving.  (Obviously, these pictures aren't in order).  And yes, that is the Dairy Queen behind us.  They only have some ice cream and hot dogs, but we still enjoy it. As is our custom, we spent Christmas at the coast.  This is o...

Rang and Veng baptized

Image
We were thrilled when 2 of our students decided to put their Lord on in baptism. The top 2 pictures are of Rang and then the next 2 are Veng.  (Sorry but the program didn't let me space them well)  They are 2 of our new students.  This is Rich with Rang and Veng singing after their baptisms.  Please keep this 2 in your prayers as they strive to follow God in their lives. After the song, there was a prayer of thanksgiving for these 2 new brothers. Such a sweet time! Love, Ronda
